Asha AZ kids 5 K Walkathon on Oct 11, 2008 at Tempe Arts Park at 6.30 AM
All the proceeds of the walkathon is going to fund rain water harvesting systems and reverse osmosis systems to get clean potable water to underprivilleged kids in India. The funds from the walkathon is also going to fund the midday meal program for 500 kids - probably the only meal that they get each day! Please come and join us in this effort and donate.

Be there for an exciting workshop with Shalini Kantayya and the AshaAZ kids at the Arizona Historical Museum on Sunday, Nov 18th 2007, 2-5 PM. This ‘art in action’ workshop uses video, writing and open discussion to help youth connect to the things they care about, and discover practical strategies to create change. Be there to also view the screening of Shalini Kantayya's award winning film "A Drop of Life".
Who is Shalini Kantayya?
Shalini Kantayya is filmmaker, educator, and activist who uses film/video as a tool to educate, inspire, and empower audiences. She has received recognition from the New York Women in Film and Television, the Third Wave Foundation, and the Media Action Network for Asian Americans. Her films have been screened at international film festivals including the Toronto Inside Out Film Festival, The Ivy Film Festival, The MIX Festival, Vancouver Film Festival, The New Festival, Images and Voices of Hope, Chicago Reeling Film Festival, Paisley Gallery New York, and Chemould Art Gallery Bombay.

Asha AZ Kids Walkathon
October 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007
On October 12th, 2008, the Asha AZ kids Chapter will be hosting a walkathon to honor Mahatma Gandhi, whose birthday falls on October 2nd, and to serve the underprivileged children in India. The walkathon will be held at Kiwanis Park Recreation Center, 6111 South All-America Way, Tempe, AZ 85283.
Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and the walk will start at 7:30 a.m. Tickets are priced at $20 for adults, $15 for seniors (over 65) and children (under 12), and $50 for a family of four. Discounts are available for pre-registrants and food will be served. After the walk, relax and play some games or take part in our exciting raffle. Be sure to bring as many people as you can!

Feathered Friends Festival: March 2005, 2006, 2007
AWAKE kids have held a booth and presented at the Gilbert Riparian Institute on Feathered friends festival. This is an extremely popular annual event where AWAKE kids have played a prominent role. The AWAKE kids have come up with hands on activities involving Water Conservation and Sanitation.
Global Awareness Day Festival in Aug 2006 and 2007
Arizona Science Center hosted its second annual Global Awareness Day from 10 a.m.
to 5 p.m. Saturday, in Aug 2007, featuring more than 18 local companies providing environmental
demonstrations and activities.

4th Annual Charity Walk for Local Shelters

5K Charity Walk in support of Andre House, Arizona South Asian for Safe Families (ASAFSF) and Helping Hands Housing Services
The Indo-American Community of Arizona has been organizing charity events to raise awareness on the needs of local shelters in the metropolitan Phoenix area. In the last 3 years, they raised several thousand dollars from the Charity walk event and donated cash to several shelters that provided help to victims of domestic violence, destitute pregnant women and disabled & elderly homeless people. This year too, they would like to bring together the members of the Indo-American Community and the American Community at large, for a 5 Kilometer Charity Walk event, to raise awareness and funds to support the above mentioned charities.

Earth Day Events at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale Arizona where AWAKE kids were invited to present a workshop on water and hands on activities
In Jan 2008, AshaAZ kids were invited to present hands on activities on water conservation and sanitation at the Tamil Sangha of Arizona, annual Picnic. The AshaAZ kids also presented at the Spring festival in March 2008 called Holi.
AWAKE kids are known in the local community for spreading awareness about water conservation and sanitation. They have given numerous workshops at many locations such as the Unity Church of Mesa, AZ, San Marcos Elementary School in Chandler etc. They have mentored kids from an inner city school in Chandler twice a week in 2006-2007 on water awareness activities.
